On January 28, 2025, a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Warrensburg-Latham Community Unit School District 11 Board. The request was made by Macon Reporter, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The FOIA request specifically sought copies of all emails and memos from the past 12 months that contain the keywords “Lucy Calkins” and “Units of Study”. The request emphasized the importance of access to public records for journalists in fulfilling their professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
As representatives of Macon Reporter, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals. We are committed to gathering and reporting news to the public, and access to these records is essential for us to fulfill our duties.
