State Representative Regan Deering (R-Decatur) recently addressed the proceedings of the Illinois House of Representatives, where nearly 400 bills were reviewed during the third reading deadline. Deering, who is actively engaged in legislative processes, expressed her commitment to supporting beneficial bills while opposing those she perceives as detrimental to residents' freedoms and financial wellbeing.
One such supported bill is HB 2409, a measure co-sponsored by Deering. It aims to ban the sale of firefighting protective clothing containing PFAS, a cancer-causing substance found in firefighters' protective gear. Additionally, Deering endorsed HB 3148, designed to eliminate extra fees for consumers requesting physical invoices or statements for services.
Deering stated, “Every day I am working to help families, and I am proud of my work to save consumers money, keep our first responders safe, and make the lives of Illinoisans better,” asserting her dedication to improving the lives of her constituents.
Conversely, Deering criticized HB 1237, a bill she views as reducing local control and imposing costly mandates on schools. This bill requires certain schools to change mascots or logos to comply with new state regulations, potentially increasing property taxes. Deering also voiced concerns about HB 3564, which sets limits on rental fees and prohibits certain charges, arguing that it might discourage timely rental payments.
Commenting on the legislative activity, Deering remarked, “Although not all of the nearly 400 bills passed are ‘bad bills,’ too many are,” suggesting that the focus should be on significant issues like high taxes and rising costs, rather than “frivolous matters like banning mascots.”
