Illinois House Republican lawmakers convened at the Capitol to express their support for gun owners and emphasize the importance of preserving the Second Amendment. State Representatives Charlie Meier, Regan Deering, and Patrick Windhorst addressed concerns over recent legislative actions they believe infringe on constitutional rights.

Rep. Charlie Meier highlighted his perspective, stating, “Where I come from, Defending the Second Amendment is not just about talking points, it’s about protecting our very way of life.” He criticized Democrats for supporting policies that he claims endanger families by being "soft on crime" while imposing stricter laws on gun owners.

Rep. Regan Deering spoke during Illinois Gun Owner’s Lobby Day (IGOLD), emphasizing advocacy efforts. She stated, “To the advocates, House Republicans see you, support you, and will tirelessly defend you and your constitutional rights.” Deering argued that Democratic policies undermine trust in government and infringe on rights under the guise of safety.

Patrick Windhorst, serving as the House Republican Floor Leader and a ranking member on relevant committees, expressed concern over legislation passed by Illinois Democrats. He said these laws harm citizens' rights to bear arms responsibly. Windhorst referenced the US Supreme Court’s 2022 Bruen Decision, suggesting Illinois laws might conflict with historical firearm regulation traditions.

Windhorst concluded by asserting that Illinois laws create confusion by exceeding federal restrictions and pledged to defend citizens' Second Amendment rights: “We are here today to defend Illinois citizens’ rights to lawfully abide by our Second Amendment and to defend your Right to Bear Arms.”
