State Representative Regan Deering of Decatur expressed opposition to the signing of the fiscal year 2026 budget by Governor JB Pritzker. The budget amounts to $55.2 billion and includes $1 billion in tax increases, along with one-time revenue sources and fund reallocations. Rep. Deering highlighted concerns about financial burdens on taxpayers due to allocations in the budget for healthcare for undocumented immigrants, funding for Democratic projects, an alleged slush fund for Governor Pritzker, and a pay raise for lawmakers. “This is unacceptable and unethical," she said, explaining her vote against the budget and expressing disappointment over its enactment.
