Decatur ranked 289th in state in lottery ticket sales for February 2016

The City of Decatur had the 289th highest lottery ticket net sales statewide per capita for the month of February 2016 -- up 199 spots from its January ranking.

The per capita lottery ticket sales in Decatur was $23.83 per person.

Based on monthly sales records obtained by the Macon Reporter, Decatur generated $1,745,307 in net sales from its 64 lottery retailers in February 2016, compared to $1,719,864.50 in February 2015.

The City of Decatur is in Macon County, and has a population of 73,254, according to 2010 census data. Neighboring municipalities are Harristown, Long Creek, Forsyth and Mount Zion.

Average sales for municipalities in the region in February 2016 was $25,799.86.

Circle K #1302 generated 5 percent of Decatur's February 2016 lottery ticket sales and 5 percent of Macon County's sales that month, which was $2,038,189.

A close look at sales by city shows that the top five cities with the highest lottery revenue per capita in Macon County in 2015 were Oreana, Decatur, Warrensburg, Maroa and Blue Mound.

Statewide, the top five cities with the highest lottery revenue per capita were Forest View, Burnt Prairie, McCook, Mapleton and Merrionette Park.
