Maroa ranked 603th in state in lottery ticket sales for July 2016

The City of Maroa had the 603th highest lottery ticket net sales statewide per capita for the month of July 2016 -- down 441 spots from its June ranking.

The per capita lottery ticket sales in Maroa was $14.91 per person.

Based on monthly sales records obtained by the Macon Reporter, Maroa generated $25,924 in net sales from its two lottery retailers in July 2016, compared to $42,096 in July 2015.

The City of Maroa is in Macon County, and has a population of 1,739, according to 2010 census data.

Average sales for municipalities in the region in July 2016 was $19,501.88.

Maroa's top lottery retailer is Freedom Oil Co located at 101 N Wood St, Maroa, IL 61756.

Freedom Oil Co generated 65 percent of Maroa's July 2016 lottery ticket sales and 2 percent of Macon County's sales that month, which was $1,579,653.

A close look at sales by city shows that the top five cities with the highest lottery revenue per capita in Macon County in 2015 were Oreana, Decatur, Warrensburg, Maroa and Blue Mound.

Statewide, the top five cities with the highest lottery revenue per capita were Forest View, Burnt Prairie, McCook, Mapleton and Merrionette Park.

The top five cities in the state generated $5,496,719 in net sales -- 1 percent of the state's 2015 net sales amounting to $2,793,271,709.50.
