Blue Ridge Community Unit School District 18 Board of Education met June 21.

Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

I. Call to Order

Board President, Justin Otto called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

II. Roll Call

Board Members in attendance were Matt Althaus, Kenna Dunlap Johnson, Curt Homann, Maureen Gilbert, Dion Lathrom, Franci Miller, Dale Schneman, and Justin Otto.

Also in attendance were Superintendent Susan Wilson; Principal John Lawrence, Principal Katie Nichols, Principal Ryan Peyton, and Recording Secretaries Krista Voyles and Julie Graning.

III. Public Comments/Recognition of Guests

IV. Board Communications

Mrs. Wilson shared an email with our Coaches from Kendra Shaffer. Also received a letter from Farm Bureau supporting our programs.

A. Presentation of Athletic Programs

Evan Miles reported the highlights and events for the High School Athletic Programs for 2016-2017 and Stephen Krominga reported for the BRIJHS Athletic Programs for 2016-2017.

Mrs. Wilson highlighted her monthly report. She informed the Board that our Insurance Broker Suzanne Steele is no long with Benefit Source.

The Board agreed to signing the Future Ready Schools District Pledge that Mrs. Wilson spoke of in her report.

Motion by Franci Miller, 2nd by Matt Athaus, to approve the 2016-17 amended budget, for Blue Ridge CUSD #18, as presented.

Roll call vote 7 ayes 0 nays. Motion carried.

X. New Business

A. Discuss for Approval Technology Purchases

Motion by Franci Miller 2nd by Kenn Dunlap Johnson to approve the projects listed at a total cost of $32,348.06 from Heart Technology for bells and clocks at BRHS, and door entry, network items, and telephone upgrades for Schneider Elementary School, as presented.

Roll call vote. 7 ayes 0 nays. Motion carried.

B. Discussion Regarding Process to Review Dress Codes

No formal action is needed, but we would like to know if this is something the board supports. If so, then we will proceed with the process as described. If not, we won’t.

Leslie Whitehouse asked for permission to form a focus group to address the dress code. The focus group would consist of parents, teachers, staff, Board of Education members and community. They would like to align all three schools to be consistent. Email was sent to the District Staff.

XI. Closed Session

Motion by Matt Althaus 2nd by Dale Schneman to move from open session to closed session for appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, dismissal of specific employees of the District, at 7:46 p.m.

Roll call vote. 7 ayes 0 nays. Motion carried.

Motion by Franci Miller 2nd by Matt Althaus to approve the 6 day extended contract for K-8 Guidance Counselor for Blue Ridge CUSD 18 for the 2017-2018 school year, as presented.

Motion by Franci Miller 2nd by Kenna Dunlap Johnson to approve the ELL Aide, for Schneider Elementary and BLIJHS.
