HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital will hold a Pet Blessing event on Thursday, October 9, at 5:30 p.m. The ceremony will take place at the St. Mary’s Cancer Care Center, located at 1990 E. Lake Shore Dr. The event is part of the annual celebration of the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, recognized by Catholics worldwide in October.

Father Amal Roche will conduct the blessing for pets brought by hospital staff and community members. Organizers have asked that all animals be kept on leashes and that pet owners clean up after their pets.

The hospital noted that “the life of love and service modeled by St. Francis is also followed by the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis, the founding institute of Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS). HSHS ministries are celebrating the feast of St. Francis throughout the month of October.”
