Wapella Fire Protection District responded to 37 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the East Central Reporter.

The calls in Wapella included 32 fires - 18 structure fires, four vehicle fires and 10 other fires.

In all, the department saw $82,900 in fire loss - or about $2,591 per fire.

The department also received five false calls.
