Sullivan FPD responds to 41 fires in 2017

Sullivan Fire Protection District responded to 62 calls in 2017 - 17 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Sullivan included 41 fires - 22 structure fires, two vehicle fires and 17 other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $584,775 in fire loss - or about $14,263 per fire.

The department also received 20 false calls, including one malicious call and 19 other false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related injury.

The Sullivan FPD Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 10 active employees and seven retired or inactive employees, was $195,886 in debt as of June 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $6,530 for every fire in 2016.
