Arthur Public Library District issued the following announcement on Nov. 21.
Did you know that the Arthur Library was established in 1900? 40 Arthur residents donated $10.00 each to buy books for the use of the residents. The books were housed in Homrighouse's Jewelry Store ( for photo see page 58 in Noel Dicks' book "Arthur, IL Once Upon a Time" in the Arthur Public Library). In 1907 the residents voted to build a library on Vine Street, It was completed the next year. (For photo see page 30 in Noel Dicks' book "Arthur, IL Once Upon a Time" in the Arthur Public Library) Finally, in 1989 the town had out grown the library and our facility was finished in 1991.
Our current facility has approximately 5,000 square feet, and includes a reading room, a meeting room, and computers as well as the books.
Thanks to Noel Dicks who continues to keep our local history alive with his new book. Noel Dicks will be at the Arthur Public Library on Dec. 1 at 1:00 for a book signing event.
