Maroa Forsyth Community Unit School District 2 Board of Education met Dec. 9.
Here is the minutes provided by the board:
1. Call to Order
A. Meeting called to order at 6:31 pm.
2. Roll Call
A. Present: Matt Crawford, Brad Wilkey, Lindsey Wise, Lori Willoughby, Brandi Binkley, Darin Duzan. B.
Absent: Wissam Hasnain.

4. Citizens Wishing to Address the Board
A. Aaron Meador, Mayor of Maroa addressed the board.
i. We will continue to support the School District no matter what the decision ends up being for location.
ii. We are still interesting in providing an approved resource officer.
iii. We are interested in helping to ease the burden with our levy and assist with the passing of the referendum.
iv. I read the letter from Forsyth. It states Forsyth is offering money to which I would like to point out the money cannot exist unless voted on by a referendum.
5. Presentation - Middle School Steering Committee Findings
A. A presentation was given by the Steering Committee. Those items the committee discussed as important in planning for a new Middle School were detailed: Classrooms, Media/Library, Technology, Cafeteria/Common Space, Flex/Breakout workspace, Interdisciplinary Space, Multi-purpose room, Performance area, and Security.
B. Three potential scenarios were presented. Each took into account solutions provided for current areas needing improvement, teacher input, location and yearly operating cost additions as well as cost/benefit comparisons.
C. Results of the community public opinion survey were shared. The survey results aligned with input with the engagement sessions held. The survey indicated a strong base of support on which to move forward.
D. The recommendation is for the Board to move forward with a Middle School addition to the High School as the preferred scenario.
