State Rep. Dan Caulkins, R-Decatur, is following through on his commitment to donate his $70,000 legislative salary.

Caulkins announced his Outreach 101 Initiative during his campaign for the Legislature, saying it would be administered by a three-person committee to review funding requests.

According to Caulkins, the initiative is not a charity or a nonprofit organization, meaning it is not required to file public documents disclosing how funds are being disbursed. Caulkins pledges that he will be "transparent" in how the fund is administered, the Herald & Review reports.

"There are no secrets, this isn’t a political operation; this is personal for me," Caulkins said in a press conference in late January, as reported by Herald & Review.

Earlier this month, Caulkins announced $500 donations to Bement Middle School and the Mahomet Area Youth Club, as well as $1,000 for the Mahomet Area Chamber of Commerce. To date, Caulkins has donated almost $40,000, WAND reports.

Applications for funding or contributions to the fund should be directed to Caulkins at dan@dancaulkins.com. Priority for funding will be given to senior, veteran and youth groups, according to Caulkins.
