The Macon County Emergency Management Agency accepted a donation of 450 face shields last month.

According to WAND Channel 17 News, tattoo artist Jesse Blunt produced the face shields using a 3D printer. The printing was an effort to help with the recent PPE shortages.

Nicole Bateman, president of the Economic Development Corp. of Decatur-Macon County, told WAND News the effort was in a collaboration with a group of nonprofits. She highlights the teamwork from several different industries to come up with solutions to the shortages.

“This is a prime example of what the power of collaboration and community spirit can produce,” Bateman said. “We’ve combined our resources in the 3D printing, health care, nonprofit, education, and small business sectors to answer a critical need in Macon County. This effort is inspiring, and it brings awareness to the talent that exists in our community."

BLDD Architects Sam Johnson and Kayla Peck supported the effort, as did Tim Lillpop from Bendsen Signs & Graphics. The complete list of companies is on the WAND website.
