Sen. Chaplin Rose wants to help people with tax relief during this time of high inflation curve.
Rose spoke about permanent tax relief on the Senate floor on Apr. 9. The tax relief package would provide the citizens with monetary relief in this time of inflation.
"Ladies and gentlemen, you could easily repeat the arguments we have two hours ago on temporary versus permanent and the fact that we filed permanent relief and yours sunsets at the end of the year, conveniently after the election. But, here's what it comes down to and I listen to your leaders closing which is very good. It comes down to philosophical differences. Everybody wants to help people, right? You guys want to help people, we want to help people. But the difference is this: you guys want to spend other people's money to help people. We just want to give them their money back. That's it. It’s just a philosophical difference and it sums up the right and the left in this country. It sums up the two parties. We believe that if you let people spend their own money, they will spend it wisely and they’ll make the right decisions for them and their families. That’s it.," said Rose.
Senate Bill 157 passed both the Senate and the House unanimously. It passed the House on Apr. 9. The tax relief plan would include $50 checks that would be sent to citizens of Illinois who earn less than $200,000 in a year for single filers, and $100 checks would be sent for those filing jointly and earning below $400,000. At the same time, families will be receiving $100 checks per dependent with up to three members, as reported by Capitol News.
Senate Bill 157 creates several tax incentives for taxpayers in the state and gives them a little relief considering the high rate of inflation that the citizens are currently going through. The relief package also includes doubling the property tax rebate only for qualifying homeowners up to $300 for every household, reported by Capitol News.
Senate Bill 157 also creates the Manufacturing Illinois Chips for Real Opportunity (MICRO) Act, which was a big selling point for Republican legislators. MICRO will create tax incentives for manufacturers of semiconductors, microchips, or semiconductor or microchip component parts.
