State Rep. Sue Scherer (D-Decatur), who is seeking reelection to the Illinois General Assembly in the November general election, urged her constituents to support unions and purchase union-made candy for Halloween.
Scherer made her case in a recent post on Facebook, providing a list of candy options to consider for purchase. The list included more than two dozen treat options, including Butterfinger, PayDay, Mike & Ike’s and Tootsie Rolls.
Scherer also used social media to encourage her female constituents to get a mammogram.
"If you haven’t been screened- please do,” she said in a Facebook post earlier this month. “Make a plan and follow through.” Scherer noted that free screenings are offered each Monday at Decatur Memorial Hospital and Springfield Memorial Hospital.
The representative was on hand for the ribbon cutting for a high-speed rail project at Fifth and Sixth streets in Springfield, noting that she was “happy to see it to fruition,” a Sangamon Sun report said.
Sherer was first elected to the House in 2013, the Illinois General Assembly website said. A former educator, she has served on a number of committees, including Elementary Secondary Education, License and Charter, and Appropriations – Elementary and Secondary Education. She resides in Decatur.
