After starting the season with four straight wins, the Millikin men's basketball team suffered its first loss of the year falling at Washington University-St. Louis 71-55 on November 22.
Millikin jumped out to an early 2-0, but after that Washington University-St. Louis would take the lead and hold it for the entire game. The Bears lead 36-27 at halftime. The Big Blue made a couple of runs in the second half, but the Bears answered every Millikin rally. The Big Blue cut the lead to 48-45 with 7:38 to play but could never get any closer.
Millikin shot 21-45 (47 percent) from the field and made 6-13 (46 percent) from beyond the three-point arc. The Big Blue struggled at the free throw line making 7-13. WashU shot 24-56 (43 percent) from the field and made 5-19 from three-point range. The Bears won the rebounding battle 34-26.
JT Welch led Millikin with 18 points followed by Cole Laurence with 10 points. Fraizer Ott had a team high five rebounds with eight points.
Charlie Jacobs led WashU with 16 points.
Millikin is now 4-1 and will host Lake Forest College on Saturday, November 26 at 4 p.m. at the Griswold Center. WashU improves to 3-1 on the season.
