In a recent Facebook post, State Rep. Brad Halbrook, R-Shelbyville, urged his supporters to donate to a legal defense fund to protect their 2A rights from House Bill 5855, the Protect Illinois Communities Act.
Halbrook also shared a link to the Federal Firearms Licensees of Illinois (FFL-IL), an organization supporting the state’s firearms dealers. According to the website, the FFL-IL was created this year to thwart attacks on licensees from ant-gun groups and protect dealers in the state.
“Your 2A rights are under attack,” Halbrook said on Facebook. “Fight back against HB-5855! Donate to the legal defense fund.”
Halbrook also provided a link to donate, and FF-IL shared on its website a link and detailed that money received from this point will be used to rally against HB 5855, sponsored by State Rep. Bob Morgan, D-Deerfield.
According to the Illinois General Assembly website, HB 5855 includes a number of points, including the minimum age to purchase a gun in the state, as well as changing some of the rules for hunters who are under the age of 21.
NBC Chicago reported that hearings for the legislation started earlier this month, and if the bill is approved, Illinois will become the eighth state to ban assault weapons.
