Millikin Women Stay Unbeaten in CCIW Action
The Millikin women's basketball team defeated Augustana College 81-63 on January 21 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Illinois.
The victory was Millikin's 12th straight and improved the Big Blue to 15-3 overall and 9-0 and in first place in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin.
Millikin recovered from a slow start that had Augustana jump out to a 13-6 early in the game. The Big Blue got things back on track late in the quarter with a 11-2 run to gain an 18-15 lead after one period. Millikin extended that advantage to 41-33 at halftime. The Big Blue's biggest lead of the game was early in the fourth quarter at 19 points.
Millikin shot 48 percent (32-67) from the field and went 7-22 (32 percent) from three point range. Augustana shot 40 percent (25-62) from the field and made 7-28 from beyond the arc.
Millikin had a balanced scoring attack with four players scoring in double figures. Bailey Coffman led the way with 20 points followed by Elyce Knudsen with 19 points and five assists. Chelsea McCullum tied her career best with 14 points. Sarah Isaf added 10. Sophie Darden had a team high eight rebounds and six points.
Augustana's top scorer was Gabriela Loiz with 15 points followed by Corey Whitlock and Carly Stone with 14. Macy Beinborn scored 10 points and made one three-pointer breaking the Vikings record for three-point baskets win a career.
Augustana falls to 11-7, 5-4.
