Sangamon Valley Community Unit School District 9 Board of Education met March 15.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

Call to Order

President Stephanie Guerrero called the March meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. Board members present were: Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Josh Hilbert, and Martha Leeper. Absent: Jeff Stahl and Matt Wood.

Administration

Also present: Superintendent Bob Meadows, SVP Principal Bethany Wellbaum, SVI Principal Kristina Sommer, SVMS Principal Jonathan Downing, and SVHS Principal Jonathan Field.

Pledge to the Flag

Mr. Meadows led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Visitors

Stephanie Guerrero welcomed the visitors. Visitors present were Rose Ross, Tammy Bolt, Sue Bolt, Michael Bolt.

Closed Session

Lori Campbell moved and Josh Hilbert seconded the motion to enter closed session at 6:05 p.m. for the reasons stated on the agenda. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Josh Hilbert, and Martha Leeper. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Closed Session Adjournment

Josh Hilbert moved and Jessica Browning seconded the motion to re-enter open session at 6:35p.m. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Josh Hilbert, and Martha Leeper. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Closed Session Minutes

Lori Campbell moved and Josh Hilbert seconded the motion to accept the closed session minutes as read in closed session. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Josh Hilbert, and Martha Leeper. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Resignation

Josh Hilbert moved and Lori Campbell seconded the motion to accept the resignation of Kenny Browning as an At-Will Custodian effective March 10, 2023. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Josh Hilbert, and Martha Leeper. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Resignation

Josh Hilbert moved and Jessica Browning seconded the motion to accept the resignation of Tony Nika as the HS Head Girls Basketball Coach effective immediately. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Josh Hilbert, and Martha Leeper. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Resignation

Lori Campbell moved and Stephanie Guerrero seconded the motion to accept the resignation of Katie Nika as the HS Assistant Girls Basketball Coach effective immediately. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Josh Hilbert, and Martha Leeper. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Jessica Browning moved and Josh Hilbert seconded the motion to accept the resignation of Brad Sturdy as the HS Assistant Girls Basketball Coach effective immediately. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Josh Hilbert, and Martha Leeper. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Resignation

Josh Hilbert moved and Lori Campbell seconded the motion to accept the resignation of Jessica Whitney as an At-Will Lead Cook effective March 10, 2023. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Josh Hilbert, and Martha Leeper. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Consent Agenda

Martha Leeper moved and Josh Hilbert seconded the motion to approve the consent agenda as presented. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Josh Hilbert, and Martha Leeper. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Superintendent’s Report

Mr. Meadows reviewed 23-24 Staffing needs.

Mr. Meadows discussed the Dishwasher Install at the Primary building.

Mr. Meadows updated the Board on the Ag classroom renovations.

HS Brick Facade

Martha Leeper moved and Josh Hilbert seconded the motion to award the HS brick facade repair bid to Western Specialty Contractors for the amount of $75,850. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Josh Hilbert, and Martha Leeper. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

IHSA Membership

Jessica Browning moved and Lori Campbell seconded the motion to approve the renewal of the IHSA Membership for the 2023-2024 school year at no cost to the district. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Josh Hilbert, and Martha Leeper. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

QNS

Josh Hilbert moved and Lori Campbell seconded the motion to purchase the technology hardware from Quality Network Systems as presented for the amount of $86,501.43. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Josh Hilbert, and Martha Leeper. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Parchment

Martha Leeper moved and Josh Hilbert seconded the motion to approve the Parchment Records Digitalization for an amount not to exceed $28,540. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Josh Hilbert, and Martha Leeper. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Dishwasher Installation

Martha Leeper moved and Josh Hilbert seconded the motion to approve the bid for the Primary Building dishwasher installation from King-Lar for an amount not to exceed $14,634. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Josh Hilbert, and Martha Leeper. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

HS Chorus and Band Trip

Martha Leeper moved and Lori Campbell seconded the motion to approve the HS Chorus and Band Trip to Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, IL on May 13, 2023. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Facilities Use

Jessica Browning moved and Martha Leeper seconded the motion to allow the Village of Harristown to use the Primary School grounds on Saturday, July 1, 2023 for their annual Independence Day Celebration. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Facilities Use

Josh Hilbert moved and Jessica Browning seconded the motion to approve the facilities use request of Alan Ferriell and the Capital City Chaos beginning on March 15, 2023 and ending on December 12, 2023. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

The next regular meeting is scheduled for April 19, 2023 at 6:00 p.m.

Adjournment

Josh Hilbert moved and Jessica Browning seconded the motion that the meeting be adjourned at 7:17 p.m. All voted in favor. Motion carried.
