Illinois Supreme Court Justice Lisa Holder White recently announced her candidacy for a full term on the state's highest court. She was unanimously appointed to the court in 2022.
"I am truly honored to serve on the Supreme Court of Illinois," Holder White, who is from Decatur, said in the announcement, quoted by The Pantagraph. "My service at all levels of the judiciary has prepared me to serve the citizens of the 4th District and the citizens of the entire state with integrity, competency and fairness. I will faithfully uphold the Constitution and the laws of the State of Illinois and the United States as your Justice on the Court from the 4th District."
Holder White, who was appointed to fill a vacancy in July 2022, has a strong background in the judiciary, including serving as an associate judge, circuit judge, and on the 4th District Appellate Court. She is the first black female on the Supreme Court of Illinois and has been praised for her diligent work ethic and commitment to upholding the law.
“Conservative Illinois Supreme Court Justice Lisa Holder White is running for a full 10-year term in 2024!” Illinoisan Joy Bunton, a member of The Illinois Poor People's Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival, said in a June Facebook post.
Politics reporter Brenden Moore also weighed in on the announcement.
"Not a surprise," he said in a June tweet. "She told me shortly after her appointment last year that she intended to seek a full term. She's the first Black woman to serve on the high court."
Holder White's group of supporters—Citizens to Elect Justice Lisa Holder White—co-chaired a kick-off campaign, with notable figures such as Illinois state Rep. Tony McCombie (R-Savanna) and Justice Carol Pope (Ret.) also among the co-chairs. The event was held on June 29 at the Illini Country Club in Springfield, Ill.
"As your representative on the court, I want you to know I stand steadfast and immovable in my commitment to honor the oath that I took to support the constitution of the United States of America and the constitution of the State of Illinois," Holder White said during her speech on Lincoln Day Dinner.
