Dr. Lisa Smith, the GOP candidate for House District 96, recently expressed her motivation for venturing into the political arena. She places an emphasis on the importance of advocating for the future generation and fostering positive change.
“I get asked why I am doing this. This is why. We need to fight for our next generation. We know God wins, but he doesn’t want us to remain complacent. Stand up and make a difference, even if it’s hard,” Smith said on Facebook.
Adding weight to her commitment, Smith included a quote from former United Kingdom Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in her post. The quote by Thatcher reads, "I am in politics because of the conflict between good and evil, and I believe that in the end good will triumph."
Smith is a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. Her extensive education and professional background include holding a Doctorate Degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) and being a certified Pediatric Mental Health Specialist, according to her bio.
“Join Dr. Lisa Smith, as she defends your constitutional rights, freedoms, and brings positive change for the citizens,” Smith’s campaign website reads.
Her commitment to family values is exemplified by her 35-year marriage to a pastor and her role as a mother to ten children, seven of whom she has adopted. Notably, three of her sons have served or are currently serving in the military, showcasing her family’s dedication to public service and patriotism. Smith notes a commitment to family values and a deep-rooted faith in God at the forefront of her campaign.
House District 96 includes all or parts of Springfield, Decatur, Taylorville, Blue Mound, Mount Auburn, Niantic, Edinburg and Rochester. It is currently represented by State Rep. Sue Scherer (D-Decatur).
