Regan Deering, a Republican candidate for the 88th House District, has expressed concerns on social media about the increasing influx of non-citizen migrants in Illinois. She has drawn attention to the potential impact on local communities and criticized what she perceives as "weak border policies and weak leaders," blaming government activists for not enforcing immigration laws.
“How long until this comes to our communities?” Deering said on Facebook. “Once again, we see the chaos caused by weak border policies and weak leaders.
“When liberal activists in government virtue signal instead of enforcing immigration laws, this is what you get.”
According to Deering, there is an urgent need for local governments to address the challenges posed by illegal immigration. These challenges include resident safety and responsible fiscal management. She called for increased awareness and urged individuals to recognize the urgency of the situation. "This should be a wake-up call," she said.
In response to reports of buses from Texas bringing non-citizen migrants into their communities, local elected officials in Illinois are considering resolutions to prevent such arrivals. Despite Governor J.B. Pritzker offering taxpayer-funded grants to support communities accepting non-citizen migrants, some areas like Homer Township and Effingham County are rejecting these funds. They have passed resolutions against welcoming such arrivals. Officials cited their obligation to use limited taxpayer resources for lawful constituents and refused services for migrants sent by officials from sanctuary cities or states. According to data disclosed by Pritzker's office and reported by The Center Square, the state has spent approximately $478 million in taxpayer funds on the influx of non-citizen migrants.
Deering announced her bid for the Illinois statehouse in June. Previously a congressional candidate and currently a Mount Zion school board member, she believes there is a demand for advocates of common sense conservatism. She stated that Central Illinois needs problem solvers with practical experience dedicated to fostering success for all, according to a previous report from the Macon Reporter.
Deering aims to succeed State Rep. Dan Caulkins, who has decided not to run for re-election. Her priorities include restoring parental rights in education and opposing curriculum agendas. House District 88, which Deering hopes to represent, encompasses McLean, Macon, Piatt, and DeWitt counties, as shown on the map in Ballotpedia representing the district.
