Regan Deering, the candidate for the 88th House District, celebrated Donald Trump's victory in the Iowa presidential caucuses on Monday, Jan. 15. With 51% of the vote, Trump emerged as the winner.
“This was a very special week for me personally,” La Ha said on Facebook. “It was the start of the 103rd General Assembly.”
“Driving into Springfield as a State Representative for the people of District 82 is a tremendous honor that I do not take lightly.”
Despite Trump’s decisive victory, both CNN and MSNBC faced criticism over their handling of his victory speech. MSNBC chose not to broadcast Trump’s speech at all while CNN terminated it prematurely.
Fox News host Jesse Watters criticized these decisions saying, "Last night, CNN dumped out of Trump’s victory speech when he mentioned the border." He also pointed out MSNBC’s decision not to run the speech at all. Watters said, "They preemptively censored."
In June, Deering declared her candidacy for the Illinois Statehouse in the 88th House District. A Mount Zion school board member and former congressional candidate herself, Deering emphasized that there is a need for proponents of common-sense conservatism and bold leaders dedicated to representing voters' values in Springfield. According to her, practical problem solvers with real-world experience are required to foster success for all in Central Illinois.
Deering aims to succeed State Rep. Dan Caulkins (R-Macon), who has decided not to run for re-election. She stated that she has Caulkins' support in her race to represent the 88th District which includes McLean, Macon, Piatt and DeWitt counties.
