Senator Erica Harriss has introduced a new method for Illinois residents to renew their vehicle registration or identification. In an October 18 Facebook post, she said, "The self-service kiosk can be used to renew your vehicle registration or driver's license/state ID."
"A new Fast-Lane Kiosk through the Illinois Secretary of State's Office can be found at Ruler Foods in Fairview Heights," said Harriss, Illinois State Senator (R), according to Facebook. "The self-service kiosk can be used to renew your vehicle registration or driver's license/state ID. Simply scan your renewal notice letter or enter your driver's license/ID number and renewal notice PIN, pay your fees via credit card or debit card, and your plate sticker or temporary license/ID prints immediately."
For these renewals, residents must have their renewal notice letter and renewal PIN. A credit card fee of 2.25% and a $4.95 processing fee will apply in addition to the renewal costs. Once the renewal letter is scanned and payment is made, a temporary document will be printed for use until the permanent card arrives by mail. Vehicle registrations and plate stickers will be printed at the kiosk.

According to the Illinois Business Journal's report on October 17, Ruler Foods, located at 10850 Lincoln Trail, operates from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week.
The Illinois Secretary of State’s office webpage for the self-service kiosks, which Harriss linked in her post, states that these kiosks accept credit, debit, and contactless payments; some also accept cash. All 15 Fast-Lane kiosks currently offer information in English and Spanish, with plans to add more languages in future phases.
Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias noted in an October 17 news release that the average transaction time at these kiosks is just two minutes. "Fast-Lane kiosks offer added convenience for Illinois drivers who now have the ability to renew their driver’s license or purchase a vehicle sticker while they’re running errands or buying their groceries," said Giannoulias. He added that this initiative is part of efforts to modernize services and enable residents to access more services online and remotely without visiting a DMV.
Harriss has represented the state’s 56th Senate District since 2023. She owns a small business with expertise in marketing and communications, volunteers with local charities, leads youth groups at Metro Community Church, and served six years on the Madison County Board representing its 26th District. She holds a degree in speech communication/public relations from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and graduated from Edwardsville High School.
