FOIA Request Sent to Moultrie County Sheriff Regarding Immigration Detainer Records on January 29, 2025

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Moultrie County Sheriff's office on January 29, 2025. The request, made by our team at Macon Reporter, seeks access to records of persons committed to county jails who have had an Immigration Detainer issued against them by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency since January 29, 2024.

At Macon Reporter, we are dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs. As part of our commitment to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we frequently use the Illinois Freedom of Information Act to gain access to public records.

In this particular case, we believe that the requested documents will shed light on the intersection of immigration enforcement and local law enforcement practices. It is our hope that these records will provide valuable insights into how federal immigration policies are impacting individuals within our local communities.

As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we rely heavily on access to such public records. We have therefore requested a fee waiver for this information as it is crucial for us in fulfilling our professional responsibilities.

We eagerly await a response from the Moultrie County Sheriff's office and remain committed to keeping our readers informed about important issues affecting their community.
