FOIA Request to Dewitt County Election Division Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
In our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Macon Reporter have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Dewitt County Election Division in Illinois. The request was made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140.
The request specifically asked for a list of all candidates running in the upcoming election. The information sought includes the candidates' first, middle, and last names; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; and party affiliation.
Additionally, we requested all contact information for each candidate, including their address, phone number, and email address.
As members of the media committed to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, we believe access to these public records is essential. It enables us to fulfill our professional responsibilities effectively. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we also requested a fee waiver as media professionals.
