Decatur State House candidate Sue Scherer received another $15,000 from Illinois House Speaker and Democrat Party Chief Michael Madigan (D-Chicago) between Aug. 15 and Sept. 6, state filings show.
The Madigan funding was disclosed in reports filed with the Illinois State Board of Elections (ISBE) by Friends of Sue Scherer, the campaign committee that supports Decatur’s race against Republican Herman Senor in the 96th district.
The district covers all or part of Decatur, Springfield, Taylorville, Ball, Blue Mound, Buckhart, Capital, Cooper, Cotton Hill, Decatur, Harristown, Hickory Point, Long Creek, May, Mosquito, Mount Auburn, Niantic, Pleasant View, Rochester, South Fork, Springfield, Stonington, Taylorville, Whitmore, Woodside, Boody, Blue Mound, Bulpitt, Edinburg, Forsyth, Harristown, Jeisyville, Kincaid, Mount Auburn, Niantic, Rochester, Stonington, and Tovey
Madigan’s contributions to Decatur came from the campaign funds he controls, including his own committee, Friends of Michael J. Madigan, the Illinois Democratic Party and the Democratic County Chairman’s Association of Illinois. In all, Madigan has contributed $907,609 to the candidate’s campaign.
From Aug. 15 to Sept. 6, Madigan spent $2.67 million backing campaigns for 31 candidates. He's spent more than $100,000 on 12 candidates and more than $40,000 on 18.
