Hundreds of Decatur residents are flocking to the Good Samaritan Inn for a daily free meal during the COVID-19 crisis.

According to WAND Channel 17, officials at The Good Samaritan Inn say 250-300 people have consistently frequented the inn. Officials say the uptick started when the inn switched to to-go meals due to coronavirus concerns.

"It has been a bit of an uptick," Mary Garrison, the inn's board president, told WAND. "You have individuals who are utilizing the one meal a day because they may have lost their job or don't have any food."

Garrison says the cost of food has increased since the pandemic began.

"We are seeing about a 50-cent price tag that is added onto each meal prior to COVID-19, so we would welcome donations for that or any donation," Garrison told WAND.
