Last week, U.S. Rep. Mary Miller (R-Danville) took to Twitter to complain about the economy: "Prices keep going up, shelves are empty, the government is forcing companies to fire people and everyone is losing hope. Is this 'Building Back Better?'"
In addition to economic issues, Miller has also attacked the Biden administration over its guidance on the treatment of transgender people in high school sports.
During a line of questioning of Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona, she said, "Mr. Secretary, I’m truly shocked at your position on these issues. While I have nothing but sympathy for those who struggle with gender confusion, instead of offering kids help, your department is planning to punish schools who attempt to protect girls’ privacy and support female athletics. Our school administrators and teachers have better things to do than to enforce the Biden administration’s extreme gender ideology. I am disappointed that you are advocating for a few students to feel safe but not advocating for a majority of girls who will not feel safe or comfortable under your rules and guidance. I have 5 daughters that would feel EXTREMELY uncomfortable either on the sports teams or in the locker rooms. I also want to remind you that a former member brought up that 74% of Americans agree that you are on the wrong side of this issue. Also, it is true that if men are allowed to compete in women’s sports, the sports will be dominated by men.”
Miller has had a busy month, but found time to announce the winner of the Congressional Art Competition, 17-year-old Gage Atteberry from Cami, Illinois. Recognizing his talent and the talent of other contributors, she said, "I am completely blown away by the artistic talent in Illinois' 15th District. Gage's artwork is magnificent and extraordinarily detailed. To then hear the story & inspiration behind his work, made the artwork and detail all the more spectacular."
