The Decatur Park District will continue its summer lunch program at several area parks, offering free lunches for children ages 18 and under.
The serving time depends on which park you are visiting, a Facebook post by state Rep. Sue Scherer (D-Decatur) said this week. Lunch is served from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Oak Grove, Overlook Adventure Park Lawn and South Shores parks. It is served from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at Mueller, Monroe and Torrence parks; and from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Hess, Garfield and John’s Hill parks.
“Thank you to the Decatur Park District for the continuation of the Summer Lunch Program!” Scherer said in the post.
There will be park leaders donning yellow hats at each of the neighborhood parks to lead games and educational activities, a recent release on Decaturradio.com said. The website also noted that lunch will not be served on July 4.
This marks the 39th summer that the Decatur Park District and the Illinois State Board of Education have partnered to provide lunch meals for youngsters in the area, the release said.
