Regan Deering of Decatur has emerged victorious in the GOP primary for Illinois’ 13th Congressional District.

Deering said that Illinois voted for change and thanked all her supporters.

“I am excited to be moving on to the general election to represent the incredible people of IL13," Deering said in a Facebook post. "We’d love your support to reach more voters over the next 131 days. We have to send a strong message that we are ready for change! Every dollar helps and we thank you for investing in our efforts to win this seat for the PEOPLE!”

In the primaries in the 13th District, Republicans outnumbered Democrats voting 42,000 to 39,000. The new 13th District is a swing district that includes the state’s Metro East area, Springfield, Decatur and Champaign, Illinois Newsroom reported.

The Decatur-based Deering describes herself as an “educator, small business owner and active philanthropist in Decatur.”

“It’s time to return to a government that is accountable to, 'We The People' and serve the taxpayers who pay the bills, not a bloated and unresponsive bureaucracy that serves itself. I was born and raised in central Illinois and I stand first and foremost for the rule of law and preserving the U.S. Constitution. We should all expect our elected leaders to work for their constituents and represent the morals, values and unique concerns of their district, and that is why I am running for Congress,” Deering said on her campaign website.

Deering wasted no time in going after her opponent in the November general election, Nikki Budzinski, a former staffer for President Joe Biden.

“Nikki Budzinski's far-left cronies are CRIPPLING this economy," she said on Twitter. "The country is going in the WRONG direction. It's time we send a change candidate like me to Washington. We cannot support the status quo! #IL13."
