State Sen. Chapin Rose (R-Champaign) is claiming that Illinois is chasing middle-class Americans away with high taxes.
"Why are people fleeing Illinois?” he asked on Facebook before supplying a summary and link to a report. “According to Kiplinger, Illinois is the least tax-friendly state for middle-class American families. Its sales, income and property taxes are all higher than average for the middle class.”
The Kiplinger article pointed out that Illinois has seen a population decline for eight straight years.
Last month, Rose invited Gov. J.B. Pritzker to a town hall forum, via Facebook post, at the end of August so he could hear what constituents have to say.
“I’m happy to set up a town hall with you and my constituents any time next month,” Rose wrote on Facebook, a Chambana Sun article reported. “What have you got to lose?”
The governor hasn’t yet taken Rose up on the offer.
Rose’s office also has hosted traveling office hours, like an event in April, when they were in Paris, Illinois, and Chrisman, Illinois, to reach out to the people he serves.
