City of Decatur City Council met Sept. 25.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

On Monday, September 25, 2023, the City Council of the City of Decatur, Illinois, met in Study Session at 5:30 p.m., at the South Water Treatment Plant, 1155 South Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, Decatur, Illinois.

Mayor Julie Moore Wolfe presided, together with her being Council members Pat McDaniel, Lisa Gregory, David Horn, Chuck Kuhle, Ed Culp and Dennis Cooper. Mayor Moore Wolfe declared a quorum present.

City Manager Scot Wrighton attended the meeting as well.

Mayor Moore Wolfe led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Mayor Moore Wolfe called for a Study Session on Water & Utility Capability, Distribution, Inspection & Planning.

City Manager Wrighton provided an overview of the study session.

Mr. Robert Weil, Assistant City Engineer, gave a brief description of the South Water Treatment Plant process.

Ms. Chaundra Smith, Water Operations Supervisor, provided a short tour of the South Water Treatment Plant highlighting the claricone project, chemical feed system and reviewed electrical improvements.

Ms. Jennifer Gunter, Watershed and Lake Manager, gave a status report on watershed grants and future projects.

Mr. Robert Weil, Assistant City Engineer, gave an update on water supply upgrades needed for industrial growth in the Northeast quadrant of the city, active projects and reviewed options for providing additional water and sewer infrastructure.

Mr. Keith Alexander, Water Production Manager, gave an update on the former Vulcan pit, Lake Tokorozawa and Rhodes Landfill and Dewitt Wellfield improvements.

Mr. Matt Newell, Public Works Director, spoke about new water source ideas and future water solutions.

Council members discussed the strategies for increasing water supply and providing more water to the Northeast quadrant.

Mayor Moore Wolfe called for Appearance of Citizens and the following citizen provided comments to the Council: Abeer Motan.

There being no further business, Mayor Moore Wolfe called for adjournment.

Councilwoman Gregory moved the City Council meeting be adjourned, seconded by Councilman Kuhle and upon call of the roll, Council members Pat McDaniel, Lisa Gregory, David Horn, Chuck Kuhle, Ed Culp, Dennis Cooper and Mayor Moore Wolfe. Mayor Moore Wolfe declared the motion carried.

Mayor Moore Wolfe declared the Study Session adjourned at 7:12 p.m.
