Regan Deering, a candidate for the 88th House District, has placed border security at the forefront of her campaign, identifying it as a primary concern among voters. This focus follows a significant surge in the number of undocumented immigrants entering the state via suburban areas.
“Behind the economy and inflation, securing the border is the next biggest concern for voters!” Deering said on Facebook. “Just when we thought the illegal immigrant crisis couldn’t get worse, the Supreme Court’s latest ruling is a total disaster.”
“We are already seeing how unchecked immigration is straining our schools, hospitals, and jobs. Kicking local families in need to the end of the line and creating a humanitarian crisis with no plan to house, feed, or care for these migrants is unacceptable.”
The candidate criticized both President Biden's and Governor Pritzker's administrations for what she perceives as reckless actions leading to a deterioration of border security.
"Under President Trump, we had the most secure border ever — history will remember that and America first voters are ready for it again," Deering said.
She called for decisive and compassionate solutions rather than mere rhetoric. According to Deering, Illinois deserves better than bearing the brunt of Washington's failures. She urged voters to allow her to be part of the solution.
Since late December, undocumented immigrants have been dropped off further away from city limits due to Chicago implementing fines and threatening to impound buses that drop off undocumented immigrants without prior notice. Reports suggest that in some instances up to 800 undocumented immigrants have been dropped off in Illinois in one day. The issue was discussed during a recent Hinsdale Village Board meeting where officials were informed by a bus driver that such occurrences were expected to continue through March according to DuPage Policy Journal.
Deering, a former congressional candidate and current Mount Zion school board member, announced her candidacy for the Illinois statehouse in the 88th House District in June. According to previous news from Macon Reporter, she stated that while she did not initially pursue a political career, there is a demand for advocates of common sense conservatism and fearless leaders committed to representing voters’ values and interests in Springfield. Deering believes that Central Illinois needs problem solvers with practical experience dedicated to fostering success for all.
She aims to succeed State Rep. Dan Caulkins (R-Macon), who has decided not to run for re-election. According to Deering, she has Caulkins' support in her race to represent the 88th District, which includes McLean, Macon, Piatt and DeWitt counties.
