Sangamon Valley Community Unit School District 9 Board of Education met Aug. 14.

August 14, 2024 Regular Meeting

Call to Order

President Stephanie Guerrero called the August meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. Board members present were: Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. Absent: Josh Hilbert.

Administration

Also present: Superintendent Jonathan Field. SVP Principal Hilda Rice, SVI Principal Kristina Sommer, SVMS Principal Jonathan Downing, and SVHS Principal Kyli Burge.

Pledge to the Flag

Mrs. Burge led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Visitors

President Guerrero welcomed the visitors. Visitors present were: Juan Calixto, Gretchen Cromwell.

Juan Calixto addressed the Board regarding the SV Youth League.

Executive Session

Matt Wood moved and Jessica Browning seconded the motion to enter closed session at 6:05 p.m. for the reasons stated on the agenda. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Closed Session Adjournment

Jeff Stahl moved and Matt Wood seconded the motion to re-enter open session at 6:20 p.m. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Closed Session Minutes

Lori Campbell moved and Martha Leeper seconded the motion to accept the closed session minutes as read in closed session. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Resignation

Matt Wood moved and Jessica Browning seconded the motion to accept the resignation of Becky Nave as an at-will benefited bus driver effective immediately. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Resignation

Matt Wood moved and Jessica Browning seconded the motion to accept the resignation of Sue Kaufman as an at-will benefited bus monitor effective immediately. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Resignation

Matt Wood moved and Jeff Stahl seconded the motion to accept the resignation of Brenda Terneus as an at-will SVI Library Paraprofessional. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Resignation

Lori Campbell moved and Stephanie Guerrero seconded the motion to accept the resignation of Randel Muir Terry as an at-will Middle School Paraprofessional. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Employment

Matt Wood moved and Lori Campbell seconded the motion to employ Megan Keppler as an at-will benefited bus driver effective immediately. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Employment

Martha Leeper moved and Jessica Browning seconded the motion to employ Adina Dingman as an at-will non-benefited bus monitor effective immediately. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Employment

Jeff Stahl moved and Matt Wood seconded the motion to employ Jeff Lahniers as an at-will non-benefited van driver/bus monitor effective immediately. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Employment

Matt Wood moved and Jessica Browning seconded the motion to employ Shea Watkins as an at-will SVI Library Paraprofessional effective immediately. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Employment

Matt Wood moved and Jeff Stahl seconded the motion to employ Stephanie Netterville as an at-will SVM Paraprofessional effective immediately. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Termination

Martha Leeper moved and Stephanie Guerrero seconded the motion to terminate the employment of Tera Thompson as an at-will benefited bus driver effective immediately. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Consent Agenda

Lori Campbell moved and Jeff Stahl seconded the motion to approve the consent agenda as presented. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Superintendent’s Report

Mr. Meadows discussed the following items with the Board:

  • FY 25 Tentative District Budget
  • 2024-2025 enrollment numbers
  • Beginning of the Year Fund Balance Report FY25
  • FY23-24 SIP Plan Review and Back to School Updates
  • Updated 2024-2025 Board Goals
IASB Update

President Guerrero presented an IASB Update to the Board.

Tentative District Budget

Matt Wood moved and Jeff Stahl seconded the motion to approve the tentative FY 25 school district budget. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Budget Hearing

Martha Leeper moved and Jessica Browning seconded the motion to set the hearing for the FY 25 school district budget as part of the regular board meeting on September 18, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Student Handbooks

Jessica Browning moved and Matt Wood seconded the motion to approve the Student Handbooks as presented. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Board Goals

Martha Leeper moved and Stephanie Guerrero seconded the motion to accept the 2024-2025 Board Goals as presented. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

SVYL Updates

Lori Campbell moved and Jeff Stahl seconded the motion to approve the SVYL updates to the dugouts on the Harristown Campus pending insurance approval. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

SVYL Updates

The motion to approve funding SVYL updates to the dugouts on the Harristown campus in cooperation with SVYL and Village of Harristown was tabled until September.

Next Meeting

The next Regular Meeting is scheduled for September 18, 2024 at 6:05 p.m. following the budget hearing at 6:00 p.m.

Special Meeting

Press Policy Updates meeting is scheduled for October 9, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. Dinner will be served at 5:30.

Adjournment

Martha Leeper moved and Matt Wood seconded the motion that the meeting be adjourned at 6:59 p.m. All voted in favor. Motion carried.
