About 6 percent of William Harris Elementary School students passed annual English language arts assessments in 2017 and 94 percent of students failed, according to a Macon Reporter analysis of the latest Illinois schools report card.

The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers, or PARCC, is administered to third- through eighth-graders in Illinois, testing them in reading and math based on Common Core standards.

According to William Harris Elementary School English language scores, about 6 percent met expectations and none exceeded them. Students whose results are in either category are considered to be most ready to move on to the next level and are most prepared for college or work.

Another 9 percent approached expectations, while 35 percent partially met expectations and 50 percent did not meet them. Students who scored in these categories are not ready for the next level of schooling, according to the test.

Test results at William Harris Elementary School, which enrolled 303 students in 2017, surpassed state averages.

Statewide, 37 percent of students passed the test and 63 percent failed.

Of students statewide who passed, only five percent 'exceeded' expectations.
