DeWitt County Board Public Safety Committee met Dec. 15.
Here are the minutes provided by the committee:
MEMBERS PRESENT: Megan Myers – Chair, Claro Carter – Vice Chair, Tom Farris, John Werts and Melonie Tilley. Also present, Dee Dee Rentmeister, County Administrator.
MEMBERS ABSENT: none
SUMMARY OF DISCSSION:
No one to address the committee.
Motion by Carter, 2nd by Tilley to approve the August 2022 minutes. Voice vote, motion carried. Motion by Werts, 2nd by Farris to approve the claims. Voice vote, motion carried. Donny Benson, Madyson Turley with Animal Control were introduced to the new committee members. Micah Gallardo - EMA Coordinator, was also introduced to new committee members. Discussion on purchasing a new animal control software for $350.00. This has been budgeted. Motion by Carter, 2nd by Tilley to approve the purchase of a new software program for animal control for $350,00. Voice vote, motion carried.
Committee asked the animal control administrator to keep current with the monthly reports. Discussion on the meeting time for the meeting going forward. Motion by Carter, 2nd by Werts to change the meeting time to 5:30 p.m. Voice vote, motion carried.
Sheriff Walker updated the committee on the following:
o One deputy will be going to the academy in January. Still one deputy short. May have a retirement in July/August in the Task Force position.
o Training for deputies is 16 weeks and 8 weeks for correction officers.
Micah Gallardo – EMA Coordinator went over his monthly report with the committee.
Donny Benson, Animal Control Administrator, informed the committee that the U of I spay/neuter program started backup at the shelter.
Sheriff Walker discussed the support of the Second Amendment Rights. Will ask the State's Attorney to put together a resolution for the county board meeting against banning of gun rights. Motion by Tilley, 2nd by Werts to adjourn at 7:27 a.m. Voice vote, motion carried.
COMMITTEE ACTION:
Approve the August 2022 minutes.
Approve the claims,
Approve the purchase of a new animal control software program for $350.00. Change the meeting time to 5:30 p.m.
